DHL opens new international hub in Riverside
Bonn, Germany headquartered delivery giant DHL opened its new international gateway in Southern California today.
DHL invested nearly $3 million at its West Coast Distribution Facility in Riverside, Calif. to establish the new operation, adding on-site offices specifically for providing customs processing and clearance functions related to international shipments upon arrival. The newly expanded operation will come fully online with the arrival on Tuesday of a flight from DHL’s Central Asia SuperHub in Hong Kong into the facility.
The new facility configuration will allow mail and packages to be processed as they are offloaded from the Asia-Pacific flight and then channeled directly into the DHL West Coast distribution network. DHL claims this will cut handling times and provide an additional 90 minutes to transport shipments through their network.
DHL began operations at its West Coast distribution facility in 2005, following a $70 million investment in the lease and development of a new facility on the site of the March Air Reserve Base in Riverside
Tuesday's flight marks the first international flight for DHL’s West Coast distribution facility. In addition to the new international flight, the Riverside facility handles seven daily domestic flights.
The Riverside facility is DHL’s sixth U.S. international gateway and the firm's third in California. In addition to Riverside, DHL maintains U.S. operations in Wilmington, Ohio; Miami; New York; Los Angeles; and San Francisco.
