DHL secures $160 million Panasonic contract

A day after news broke that the UPS and TNT Express merger was dead in the water, DHL announced it had secured a contract with Panasonic for warehousing and logistics services worth $159.9 million.
DHL will take over Panasonic’s U.K. supply chain, managing a shared warehouse, working to enhance the shipper’s domestic transport options, and carrying out order fulfillment. Panasonic will also convert its existing facility to a technology-driven development complete with an enhanced IT solution and a transport control tower for enhanced supply chain visibility.
“As our business evolves, it was necessary to bring in an innovative logistics specialist who understands the emerging needs of the technology sector,” Panasonic Europe’s Nigel Cowmeadow said in a statement. “Our business needs the flexibility to adapt to the demands of current and new markets, addressing rapid product lifecycles while consistently improving on our customers’ experience. Panasonic strives to find new ways to deliver customer value, and DHL has demonstrated that it is a suitable partner to join us on our journey.” – Jon Ross
