DHL starts shipping Airbus components to Mobile

The forwarder began shipping aircraft components from Airbus’ Hamburg facility to its assembly plant in Mobile, Alabama, the company’s first U.S. facility.

   DHL Global Forwarding is working with Airbus to ship aircraft components from the the company’s facility in Hamburg to its the new assembly plant in Mobile, Ala.
   According to Airbus, the first shipment, which consists of components of the A320 family, left Hamburg May 29. The major aircraft components include wings, rear fuselage sections, tail cones, and forward fuselage sections, including cockpits, all of which contain parts produced around the world.
   The sea voyage should take approximately 20 days.
   The Mobile facility, the company’s first in the United States, was established for the production of A319, A320 and A321 aircraft. Production at the new facility is scheduled to begin this summer.
