DHS secretary, Canadian minister discuss binational preclearance

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen discussed with Canadian Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Minister Ralph Goodale how their countries can expand preclearance to facilitate lawful trade and travel across the northern border.

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen discussed Monday with Canadian Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Minister Ralph Goodale how their countries can expand preclearance to facilitate lawful trade and travel across the northern border, the Department of Homeland Security said in a press release.
The meeting was “a continuation” of discussions held during an October meeting between Goodale and then-Acting Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Duke.
“The Department of Homeland Security remains committed to raising global security standards in partnership with our strong allies in Canada,” Nielsen said. “Today, we reaffirmed our joint commitment to counterterrorism and cybersecurity, as well as managing our shared border. We will continue to work together to ensure the safety and security of our countries, and build upon the successes of our many joint efforts.”
