5 yrs ago in Canada the gov and the ont trucking association was told that bringing foreign workers and students to become truck drivers without a plan to house them would be very bad. In the last 16 months in Ont Canada I am seeing large numbers of drivers and lease ops unable to pay for housing for their families. These people are often new to Canada and got a large company to help with their P R in return for driving truck at a lower rate than someone who was born in Canada . I am now seeing many of these drivers families using food banks and being evicted. We need to have a plan to house all workers or foreign students become they come to Canada. I have seen many drivers facing eviction and get help from church to help send their family back as they can’t afford rent and support their children
We need to have a plan to insure new drivers already here and housing for all truck drivers if they get sick or injured BEFORE we bring in cheap foreign workers including foreign truck drivers.
