EC AGREES NOT TO REOPEN ALITALIA STATE AID CASE
The European Commission said that it will not open a new investigation in
the Alitalia state aid case following assurances given by the Italian authorities.
The EC said that certain conditions set for approving a Lira2.75 trillion ($1.45 billion)
capital injection in Alitalia by the Italian state had not been met.
In particular, the EC said that it was concerned that the Italian
authorities had discriminated in favor of Alitalia as regards the allocation of traffic
rights and access to airport infrastructure.
The Italian authorities have now committed to taking the necessary
measures to ensure that all conditions are fully respected, the EC said.
