EC APPOINTS DE ESTEBAN DEPUTY DIRECTOR-GENERAL
The European Commission has appointed Fernando de Esteban deputy director-general of its Directorate General for Energy and Transport.
De Esteban was previously director of the Directorate General for Administration at the European Commission.
The Directorate General for Energy and Transport was formed on Jan. 1 as a result of the merger between the former energy and transport directorates. It manages programs with a total budget of 850 million euro ($800 million) and is overseen by Loyola de Palacio, EC vice-president and commissioner in charge of relations with the European Parliament, transport and energy.
