Edwards heads GCT Global Container Terminals

Stephen Edwards has been named president and chief executive officer of GCT Global Container Terminals Inc., effective Sept. 10.
He succeeds Michael E. Moore, who left the company in June.
Edwards was president and CEO of Ports America, the largest terminal operating and stevedoring company in the United States, from 2007 to 2010.
More recently he was a senior consultant at R.K. Johns and Associates, providing executive advice to the maritime and ports industry.
Before joining Ports America, he worked with the P&O Group for 17 years in various management roles, including appointments in Rotterdam, London, Singapore and Dubai.
“Stephen is an experienced international leader in the maritime transportation industry with a solid background in terminal operations and
management. We are confident that his global experience and strategic focus will bring significant benefit to our organization,” said Paul M. Tellier, chariman of GCT.
In his new role, Edwards will be responsible for GCT’s facilities in Canada and the United States, which include:

  • TSI Terminal Systems, the largest container terminal operator in Canada. (TSI handles 75 percent of the containerized cargo that moves through Port Metro Vancouver at two terminals – Vanterm in the inner harbor and Deltaport at Roberts Bank.)
  • Two terminals that handle about 27 percent of the container traffic in the Port of New York and New Jersey. (They are the New York Container Terminal on Staten Island, N.Y., and Global Terminal & Container Services in Bayonne, N.J.)

GCT is a subsidiary of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. – Chris Dupin
