The Washington, DC-based Eno Center for Transportation has appointed Robert J. Puentes as president and chief executive officer, effective April 11.
Puentes, who succeeds Joshua Schank, is currently head of the Metropolitan Infrastructure Initiative at the Brookings Institution.
Schank left the think tank in early October to become the chief innovation officer for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
Puentes’ areas of focus at Brookings include sustainable transportation, infrastructure finance, access to opportunity, and urban planning. He began his tenure at Brookings as a senior research manager in 2000 and was later promoted to senior fellow and director of the Metropolitan Infrastructure Initiative. He will remain affiliated with Brookings as a non-resident senior fellow, according to Eno.
Prior to Brookings, Puentes worked for the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS) in Washington from 1996 to 2000, where he started as a senior planner and later became director of its infrastructure programs.
In addition, he has served on a number of advisory boards and commissions, including the District of Columbia Infrastructure Task Force, the West Coast Infrastructure Exchange, the New York State 2100 Infrastructure Commission, and the Technical Advisory Committee of the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority.
