EU PLANS TO ADOPT ‘HUSHKIT’ LAW; TALKS TO CONTINUE
The European Union plans next week to make good on its ban of older
aircraft outfitted with noise-muffling "hushkits," but promised to amend
the law after further discussions with U.S. officials.
EU transport ministers agreed Saturday to go ahead with the restrictions
despite strong pressure from the U.S., which has argued the ban
discriminates against U.S. companies — particularly jets built by Boeing
Co. The EU said that aircraft fitted with hushkits do not meet the most
stringent noise standards.
