Airfreight volumes at Brussels Airport and Frankfurt Airport in January declined year-over-year, while throughput at London Heathrow Airport and London Stansted Airport increased.
Cargo volumes at Brussels Airport and Frankfurt Airport declined year-over-year in January, while London Heathrow Airport and London Stansted Airport experienced increases from January 2015.
Brussels Airport handled 36,394 tons of cargo in January, a 2.4 year-over-year decrease. The airport attributed the overall decline to its struggling full-freighter segment, which is still recovering from the departure of Ethiopian Cargo after the airline did not obtain necessary traffic rights to continue its activities at the airport.
Frankfurt Airport handled 159,650 metric tons of cargo in January, a 0.1 percent decline from January 2015, according to Fraport AG, the airport’s operator.
On the flip side, cargo volumes at London Stansted Airport surged 10 percent from January 2015 to 20,260 metric tons, the airport said.
London Heathrow Airport’s cargo volumes totaled 119,214 metric tons in January, a 2.9 percent year-over-year increase, which the airport said resulted from stronger trade with Mexico and China.
