Evergreen extends Port of Kaohsiung terminal lease
Taipei-based Evergreen Marine Corp (Taiwan) Ltd. has extended by another 11 years and one month its lease to operate Container Terminal No. 5 at the Port of Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s largest port.
Evergreen won the BOT (build-operate-transfer) tender for the 100-acre terminal in May 1997. The facility started operations two years later and can now accommodate up to 25,000 TEUs of loaded containers and 3,700 TEUs of empty containers. It has a total quay length of 2,700 feet across three berths served by nine post-Panamax gantry cranes, 30 rail-mounted gantry cranes and six empty container stackers.
The lease extension contract, which covers the period from Dec. 1, 2007 to Dec. 31, 2018, was signed by Evergreen President Jack Yen and Ming-Hui Shieh, director-general of the Kaohsiung Harbour Bureau.
Evergreen also operates three berths at Kaohsiung’s Container Terminal No. 4.
