Executive Moves: Chamber of Marine Commerce and DTI

The Chamber of Marine Commerce appoints interim president, while the executive director of the Transportation Institute at the University of Denver (DTI) will retire.

The Chamber of Marine Commerce has appointed Raymond Johnston interim president. He will oversee the implementation of the recently announced merger between the Chamber of Marine Commerce and the Canadian Shipowners Association (CSA), and will lead the association until the recruitment process for a new president is completed. Prior to joining the chamber in 2000, Johnston was president and chief executive officer at Canada Steamship Lines.

William J. DeWitt III will retire as executive director of the Transportation Institute at the University of Denver (DTI), effective Dec. 31. He is credited with enhancing the institute’s executive master’s degree program. DeWitt, who spent 50 years in transportation, served in the Navy and 23 years with the Burlington Northern Railroad, eventually reaching the position of vice president of marketing and sales for intermodal, automotive/machinery and forest products. He earned a PhD at the University of Tennessee, and taught supply chain there. This was followed by teaching stints at the University of Maryland and Maine Maritime Academy before heading DTI.
