Executive Moves: CSX and Loadsmart

Schwichtenberg named safety chief; Malin will head operations.

CSX Corporation announced Wednesday that James Schwichtenberg has joined the company as vice president and chief safety officer.
Schwichtenberg has 20 years of railroad experience, including 15 directly leading rail safety and regulatory initiatives. His responsibilities will include overseeing coordination efforts with CSX’s safety consulting firm, DEKRA, which was selected to perform a comprehensive safety assessment of the company’s operations. That assessment is set to begin in June and be completed this fall.
Schwichtenberg most recently served as senior director of regulatory and operating practices at Canadian National Railway. Prior to that, he was a deputy administrator for the Federal Railroad Administration. He began his career with Union Pacific and held various engineering positions.

Loadsmart, the digital freight broker specializing in full-truckload shipping, announced Wednesday that it had appointed Erik Malin as its new head of operations.
Malin previously was responsible for strategy for truckload broker AFN. Prior to that, he ran a boutique strategy consultancy and advised publicly traded and hyper-growth private logistics companies on growth opportunities and related change management initiatives.
Malin is scheduled to discuss technologies that bring ROI at 11:45 a.m. June 7 at the 3PL & Supply Chain Summit in Atlanta.
