Executive Moves: ICAO, IATA and Canaveral Port Authority

International Civil Aviation Organization re-elects council president, International Air Transport Association selects regional vice president for Africa and the Middle East, and Canaveral Port Authority elects chairman.

   Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu was re-elected to his second three-year term as president of the council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Dr. Aliu assumed the office of ICAO council president on Jan. 1, 2014, having previously served as the representative of Nigeria since Jan. 1, 2005.

   The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has appointed Muhammad Ali Albakri as regional vice president for Africa and the Middle East (AME), effective Jan. 1, 2017. He will lead the association’s regional AME office in Amman, Jordan, which has a total of 124 employees responsible for IATA’s operations across 68 countries.

   The board of directors for Canaveral Port Authority has unanimously re-elected Director of Fidelity Bank of Florida Tom Weinberg to his third term as as chairman of the authority. Elected in 2010 and again in 2014, Weinberg’s career includes previous stints as Chief of Staff for former U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., and Deputy County Administrator for Orange County, Fla.
   In addition, the Canaveral Port Authority officially installed newly elected port commissioners Micah Loyd and Bob Harvey, who will begin their terms immediately.
