Appointments are made and new leaders take the helm in the United States, Europe and South America.
Jeff Dixon has assumed the role of president of TOTE Services following the retirement of Phil Greene Jr.
Dixon joined the company in May 2017 as the vice president of marine operations for the government and commercial sectors. He previously was a captain in the United States Coast Guard and spent 27 years on active duty, most recently in command of Sector Jacksonville, where he exercised captain of the port authority that included St. Mary’s/Fernandina, Jacksonville and Port Canaveral, Fla.
Jess Herrera has been elected president of the Port of Hueneme Board of Harbor Commissioners.
Herrera (pictured above being sworn in by his wife, Cynthia Herrera) was first elected to the board in 1994 and has been the longest consecutively serving commissioner in the port’s history. He also served 10 terms as executive officer of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and eight terms as chairman of the union’s Southern California Regional Jurisdiction Committee.
Herrera has worked on the waterfront at the Port of Hueneme for 53 years and currently serves as a marine clerk coordinating the flow of ships and cargo.
Also elected to the board were Vice President Jess Ramirez and Secretary Jason Hodge. Mary Anne Rooney and Manuel Lopez will continue to serve as commissioners for 2019.
The Clean Shipping Alliance (CSA) 2020 has appointed Ian Adams as its executive director.
CSA, with members representing more than 30 ship-owning companies, was established last year to provide scientific-based information and research on the emissions abatement performance and environmental benefits of closed- and open-loop exhaust gas cleaning systems.
The alliance also has contracted the U.K.-based Maritime AMC to provide secretariat services.
Adams is the former chief executive of the International Bunker Industry Association.
“Good governance and secretariat services are essential to the success and effectiveness of any growing membership body. As such, we will work with CSA 2020’s officers to widely promote its mission and ensure that all industry stakeholders — flag states, nongovernmental organizations, administrations and regulators — have a more balanced, informed view of the solutions available for complying with the introduction of the IMO global sulphur cap in January 2020,” Adams said.
CSA 2020 will hold its first general assembly in February, when its leadership team and officers will be formally elected.
Fleet Advantage, a provider of truck fleet business analytics, equipment financing and lifecycle cost management, has hired Jim Wharton as vice president of finance.
Wharton, a CPA, has extensive experience in financial and corporate reporting, financial planning and analysis and ERP implementations, according to Fleet Advantage.
He previously was the director of finance for Steiner Leisure Limited. He also has held accounting and finance positions with such companies as Arthur Andersen, Lennar Corp. and Chancellor Beacon.
Virgin Atlantic Cargo has appointed Sumith Rathor as regional sales manager for the U.K.
Rathor joined the airline in 2013 as a customer service agent after 11 years with Uneek Freight Services in the U.K. In 2014 he moved to Virgin Atlantic Cargo as an account manager.
“We are delighted to give Sumith this great opportunity to grow his career with the airline. Since joining our sales team in 2014, he has built up a loyal following in his customer base and helped to increase our revenues with key accounts through his strong customer focus approach,” said Steve Buckerfield, director of cargo sales.
Retired Navy Rear Adm. Wendi B. Carpenter has been named executive director of the Captain Phillips and Lane Kirkland Maritime Trust.
Carpenter is the first woman aviator to be promoted to the flag rank in the U.S. Navy. During her 34-year career, she served in leadership roles that included deputy commander of the U.S. Second Fleet and commander of the Navy’s Warfare Development Command. After her retirement from the Navy in August 2011, Carpenter served as president of the State of New York Maritime College.
The Captain Phillips and Lane Kirkland Maritime Trust Foundation was created to promote the long-term strength of the U.S. maritime industry and the American Merchant Marine by generating public awareness, assisting individuals who want to pursue careers in maritime and advocating for public policy to ensure the viability of the industry and its workforce.
Gabriel Sanchez has joined the PTV Group as regional director, responsible for expansion of the company’s business in the Americas.
PTV Group develops intelligent software solutions for transport logistics, traffic planning and traffic management.
Prior to joining PTV Group, Sanchez worked as an international intelligent transportation systems business and strategy consultant. Before that, he was executive vice president of the International Road Federation and earlier was director of international business at ITS America.
PTV Group has offices in Arlington, Va.; Portland, Ore.; Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Mexico City. PTV said it “takes a holistic approach that integrates all aspects of traffic, transport and logistics to create and promote sustainable mobility.”
The French logistics and transport services provider FM Logistic has appointed Ronaldo Fernandes da Silva as the country managing director for Brazil.
A Brazilian national, da Silva has more than 20 years of experience in the international and domestic logistics and transport industries, most recently as managing director for contract logistics at Geodis in Brazil and Chile. Before that, he was the operations director at AGV Logística and Golden Cargo. From 2000 to 2009, da Silva held business development management roles at DHL Supply Chain.
FM Logistic has been active in Brazil since 2013. It operates five logistics platforms and employs close to 1,000 people in the country. The company offers warehouse and co-packing services to a range of national and international companies in the retail, food, consumer goods and perfume/cosmetics sectors.
