Executive Moves: UPS and Railinc

UPS names former Xerox exec as marketing chief; Railinc promotes IT leader.

   UPS has appointed Kevin Warren to the position of chief marketing officer effective Friday.
   Warren, who will report to UPS Chairman and CEO David Abney, also will join the UPS Management Committee, the most senior leadership group in the company.
   Warren will be responsible for all U.S. and international marketing, including the company’s product development, pricing, customer loyalty, industry segments, customer communications and public relations.  
   Most recently, he served as executive vice president and chief commercial officer for Xerox Corp., for which he was responsible for worldwide channel strategy, sales force effectiveness and global client engagement. 
   Warren has been named one of the top 100 most influential black executives in corporate America by Savoy Magazine and one of the 75 most powerful executives in America by Black Enterprise.
 
   Railinc Corp. has promoted Joan Smemoe to the positions of chief information officer and vice president of information technology, effective June 11. 
   Smemoe will be responsible for providing the vision and leadership for Railinc’s data, product development and information systems platforms. 
   Smemoe, who currently serves on the executive management team, joined Railinc in 2006 as a senior software engineer. She has served as a project development manager, senior manager of application engineering, director of application engineering and director of Railinc’s project management office. 
   During her tenure, she has provided technology leadership for important product initiatives, including the AskRail mobile application, the Gateway Operations Services program and the Component Registry.
   Prior to joining Railinc, Smemoe worked as a senior Java developer at Shelter Mutual Insurance Co. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science from the University of Missouri-Columbia and was named a 2018 Rising Star by Progressive Railroading magazine.
   Railinc touts itself as the largest single source of real-time, accurate interline rail data for the North American railroad system. Located in Cary, N.C., Railinc is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Association of American Railroads.
