EXEL SIGNS DEAL WITH U.K. HEALTH SERVICE LOGISTICS ARM

Exel, the U.K.-based international logistics service provider, has signed a seven-year contract with the logistics arm of the National Health Service in England.

Exel will provide a storage and order-picking service for NHS Logistics in the southwest of England. The contract involves the development of a regional distribution center of more than 120,000 square feet located at Express Park in Bridgwater.

Exel will manage the construction of this facility and subsequently provide warehouse management and pick-and-pack services for the NHS Logistics’ national product range. The products will be available to the NHS in the southwest as a result of the increased infrastructure capacity that the new site provides, Exel said.

'The establishment of a public/private sector relationship will help the identification of best practice', said Nick Gerrard, vice president, health care at Exel.

Exel said it has other contracts with three London NHS Trusts to provide an off-site supplier consolidation and materials management service, via its West London Support Centre.
