FAA fines True Value Co. for illegal hazmat shipment

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has proposed a $54,000 civil penalty against True Value Co. of Jonesboro, Ga. for allegedly violating federal hazardous materials regulations for air transport.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed a $54,000 civil penalty against True Value Co. of Jonesboro, Ga. for allegedly violating federal hazardous materials regulations for air transport.
The FAA alleged that on May 10, 2017, True Value offered a four-liter metal container of flammable epoxy paint to FedEx for shipment by air to Crossett, Ark. Workers at the FedEx cargo facility in Fort Worth, Texas, discovered the shipment leaking.
The agency also alleged that the package lacked the shipper’s dangerous goods declaration and was not properly packaged and marked. In addition, the FAA said True Value failed to ensure that each of its employees who handle hazardous materials for transport were properly trained.
