FAA proposes fine for non-compliant FedEx plane

The Federal Aviation Administration has proposed a $417,500 civil penalty against FedEx for allegedly operating a plane that was not in compliance with federal aviation rules.

The U.S. Transportation Department Federal Aviation Administration has proposed a $417,500 civil penalty against FedEx of Memphis, Tenn., for allegedly operating a plane that was not in compliance with federal aviation rules.
The FAA alleges that FedEx failed to rebalance a horizontal stabilizer tab control surface on a Boeing 727 cargo plane after repainting the part. The agency further alleges that FedEx’s failure to perform the rebalancing requirements rendered the plane “unairworthy” and the company operated it on at least 133 flights when it was in that condition.
FedEx has requested to meet with FAA officials to discuss the case.
