A Brazilian cargo ship was reported to have lost containers during large swells near Sao Paulo, causing a looting spree by area residents looking to gain free goods, according to a report from The Telegraph.
Around 45 containers fell from a Brazilian cargo ship, the Log-In Pantanal, over the weekend, and local residents are utilizing small boats to loot the fallen containers, according to The Telegraph.
Brazilian new site GI posted photos on social media of thieves opening the containers and taking goods ranging from car tires and electronics to bicycles and backpacks, said The Telegraph.
The Sao Paulo police were able to apprehend nine persons with more than 100 stolen items of household and electronic products.
The entire incident is being investigated, but online videos show the vessel rolling in high swells near the shore, potentially causing the containers to fall, according to The Telegraph.
