FEC RAILWAY, KLEINSCHMIDT TO IMPLEMENT DATA EXCHANGE
The Florida East Coast Railway has entered into a joint project with Kleinschmidt, a supply-chain services provider, to allow FEC to implement a real-time shipment status messaging system.
Kleinschmidt, based in Deerfield, Ill., is providing FEC with in-network translation that provides rail customers with status on shipments using various American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12 messages and the Association of American Railroads/National Industrial Transportation League Car Location Message format. Kleinschmidt will assume responsibility for all translation and trading partner profile maintenance.
Prior to the agreement, FEC maintained a trading partner database and supported both X12 and CLM message formats. Now, FEC transmits one X12 message to Kleinschmidt, whose network translates the data into the format that each FEC trading partner requires. The two companies plan to include translation into XML.
Florida East Coast Industries Inc., based in St. Augustine, Fla., operates FEC, a railroad between Miami and Jacksonville, as well as Florida Express Carriers Inc., a truckload, intermodal drayage and transportation logistics and brokerage service provider.
