FEDEX CHOOSES IBM TO BEEF UP GROUND TRACKING

GOCARGO SELECTS VASTERA

FedEx Corp., the Memphis-based express logistics company, will install server technology from IBM to support expansion of FedEx Ground’s tracking capabilities, the companies planned to announce Friday.

FedEx said it will use copper-fueled RS/6000 S80 servers to enable increased use of wearable scanning technology.

IBM said the new servers will help FedEx Ground to track the more than 1.5 million packages a day that pass through the unit’s business-to-business and business-to-residential network. Package handlers will use wearable scanning technology to remotely collect and send data as packages are loaded onto vans and trailers. Scanned information is sent directly into the S80 servers for use throughout the FedEx system.
