FEFC RAISES ASIA-EUROPE BUNKER CHARGES
The Far Eastern Freight Conference said that it will
increase bunker adjustment factors on eastbound and westbound shipments between Asia and
northern Europe, effective Feb. 15.
The bunker charge will rise to $45 per TEU, from $37 per TEU now.
The increases apply to eastbound shipments from northern Europe to Japan and
the rest of Asia and to westbound cargoes from Asia except Japan to northern Europe.
The FEFC, which reinstated bunker surcharges last November following a sharp
rise in oil prices, said that bunker prices "have remained very high."
The shipping lines of the FEFC are APL, CMA CGM, DSR-Senator Lines,
Hapag-Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine, "K" Line, Maersk Sealand, Malaysia
International Shipping Corp., Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, NYK, Orient Overseas Container Line,
P&O Nedlloyd and Yangming Marine Transport.
