FESCO reorganizes container management

FESCO Transportation Group said Thursday it has formed a single logistics entity responsible for managing its business directions and FESCO companies providing various container services.

FESCO Integrated Transport (FIT) will oversee the provision of services for maritime, rail and road transportation of containerized cargoes, handling at terminals, as well as integrated logistics services, intermodal shipping and services of refrigerated cargoes.

'The main objective of the restructuring is to increase efficiency and competitiveness of the container business of FESCO, as well as to improve customer services,' the company said in a statement. 'The new structure is designed to pursue this strategy through consolidation and vertical integration of management of the container business into a single center with common standards of business, and operational accounting and planning with one client interface.'

Implementation of this program will include several changes in FESCO’s business management structure, including the integration of business units FIT, Fesco Lines Vladivostok (FLV), and Transfes into a single company.

Sergei Kostyan, appointed as a member of the board, vice president and chief executive officer of FIT, will manage FESCO’s container business.

FIT’s former CEO, Sergei Grigorenko, was appointed FIT's chief operating officer, effective Jan. 18. Dmitri Kurdakov was appointed managing director of FLV and director of FIT’s Vladivostok branch. He is also acting CEO of Transfes Vladivostok.

FESCO is a multimodal transport holding company and one of the largest marine carriers and container providers in Russia. It operates 47 vessels and four icebreakers and is Russia's largest container, dry bulk and roll-on/roll-off operator.

The carrier is also the second-largest privately held railcar operator in the Russian Federation and is further expanding into terminal and port ownership in western and Far East Russia and the Black Sea. In addition, FESCO is the only deep sea shipping liner operator offering direct service between North America and the Russian Far East.
