Fire breaks out at Port Said container terminal

The 13,092-TEU containership COSCO Hope crashed into a gantry crane at Port Said as it was departing the Egyptian port, igniting a fire that spread to 20 containers and resulted in injuries to at least two people.

   A fire broke out at Port Said last night after the containership COSCO Hope hit a gantry crane as it was departing the Egyptian port, according to maritime news outlet Splash 24/7.
   Over 20 containers caught fire and two people were injured.
   Fire engines and tugs were deployed to the scene and the fire was under control by dawn.
   The vessel is moored just outside the port and officials are still investigating the exact cause of the incident.
   The 13,092-TEU COSCO Hope serves trade between Asia, the Middle East and the Mediterranean on a loop jointly operated by the Ocean3 Alliance (comprised of CMA CGM, UASC and CSCL) and COSCO, according to ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting.
   The service is referred to as the AMX1 by COSCO and CSCL, the AMC1 by UASC and the NEWMEX2S by CMA CGM.
   A total of 11 vessels with an average vessel capacity of 13,792 TEUs serve on the AMX1, which has a rotation of Qingdao, Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Port Kelang, Jeddah, Port Said, La Spezia, Genoa, Fos Sur Mer, Valencia, Port Said, Jeddah, Khor Fakkan, Port Kelang and Qingdao.
