FORMER FEDEX EXECUTIVE METZLER NAMED CEO OF APL LOGISTICS
Neptune Orient Lines has appointed Richard Metzler, a former senior executive of Federal Express, as chief executive of its logistics arm APL Logistics.
Metzler has worked for Fedex, TNT Post and General Electric, and was most recently the president and chief executive officer of New Jersey-based Keystone Internet Services, a direct marketing firm that he launched.
His career includes international experience, with two European postings; a year in Amsterdam and a three-year term in Brussels.
Flemming R. Jacobs, group president and chief executive officer of NOL, said: “Dick Metzler comes from outside of the ocean shipping industry, which means he will bring a new perspective to the business of finding cargo flow solutions for our customers.”
NOL has spent six months looking for a new CEO for APL Logistics. The previous head of the logistics arm was Tim Rhein. Metzler will be based in Oakland, Calif.
NOL plans to make its logistics business become a major revenue earner for the group, alongside its liner business.
