FIRESIDE CHAT TOPIC: Dealing with supply chain disruptions.

DETAILS: Antonio Garcia, senior manager of SMB sales at Amazon Freight, and Hannah McClellan discussed the volatility of the freight market in the past couple of years.

SPEAKER: McClellan is the vice president at Amazon Freight.

BIO: McClellan leads Amazon’s worldwide returns, recommerce and sustainability organization, as well as its inbound transportation services. In her more than 11 years at Amazon, McClellan has worked in consumer retail, inventory management, operations and drive-thru pickup for groceries. McClellan has also worked at PRTM Management Consulting, Dell Technologies and Motorola Mobile Devices.

KEY QUOTES FROM MCCLELLAN:

“Whether you’re a shipper or a carrier, one place we all felt the volatility I think was in pricing. … At Amazon, learning to be more nimble and predicting the inputs to our prices and our costs and consistently refreshing that much more quickly than we have in the past has been a big lever we’ve had to pull to keep up with the volatility.”

“Fuel is kind of an equal-opportunity pain point, and Amazon is not immune to it. We’ve been biting the bullet along with everybody in terms of not only trucking fuel but the fuel in our airplanes.”

“We like the idea of sharing and empowering our shippers to help us lower our costs so that we can pass that back to them.”

“We found a lot of support in our shipper support group.”
