Freight Rate Roundup: Maersk, CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd

Ocean carriers Maersk Line, CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd issued freight rate increases on various trades.

   Ocean carriers Maersk Line, CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd issued freight rate increases on various trades.
   Maersk Line announced an increase in FAK rates from:
     • The Far East to North Europe effective Jan. 1 until further notice, but not beyond Jan 31.
     • The Mediterranean to the Far East effective Jan. 1 until further notice, but not beyond Jan. 31.
     • Europe to South Africa effective Jan. 1 until further notice, but not beyond Jan. 31.
     • Pakistan and the Indian Subcontinent to West Africa effective Jan. 16 until further notice, but not beyond Feb. 28.
   Maersk will also increase rates from the U.S. and Canada to Far East Asia for all dry cargo effective Jan. 1. Rates will increase by $160 per 20-foot dry container; $200 per 40-foot dry container and 40-foot high cube container; and $254 per 45-foot high cube dry container.
   In addition, Maersk will increase rates from Far East Asia to the U.S. and Canada for dry and reefer cargo effective Jan. 15. For dry cargo, rates will increase by $480 per 20-foot dry container; $600 per 40-foot dry container and 40-foot high cube container; and $750 per 45-foot high cube dry container. For reefer cargo, rates will increase by $600 per 40-foot reefer container.
   CMA CGM issued new FAK rates from all Asian main ports to all Mediterranean main ports, which took effect Dec. 15; and from all Asian main ports to all North African main ports, which also took effect Dec. 15.
   In addition, CMA CGM issued a general rate increase from Asia to Mexico, the West Coast of South America and the West Coast of Central America effective Jan. 1. Rates will increase by $750 per TEU.
   CMA CGM also issued a general rate increase from Asia to Panama, all of the Caribbean and Cuba on the PEX2 service effective Jan. 1. Rates will increase by $1,050 per TEU, $1,500 per FEU and $1,500 per 40-foot high cube.
   In addition, CMA CGM issued a general rate restoration of $500 per unit from India and the Middle East Gulf to West Africa for all cargo (including dry, reefer, out of gauge and breakbulk) effective Jan. 15.
   Hapag-Lloyd issued increased FAK rates from the Indian Subcontinent to Europe North Continent and the Mediterranean for all non-DG cargo for standard container types effective Jan. 1.
   In addition, Hapag-Lloyd increased FAK rates from East Asia to Europe North Continent and the Mediterranean for all non-DG cargo for standard container types effective Jan. 1.
   Hapag-Lloyd issued general rate increases from:
     • East Asia to the U.S. and Canada for all dry, reefer, non-operative reefer, flat rack and open-top containers effective Jan. 15. Rates will increase by $560 per 20-foot standard container; $700 per 40-foot standard container and 40-foot high cube containers; and $1,000 per 45-foot container.
     • U.S. origins to the Indian Subcontinent and Middle East destinations routing from or via the ports of Houston, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Oakland, Seattle, Tacoma and all Canadian ports for dry commodities effective Jan. 15. Rates will increase by $80 per 20-foot container and $100 per 40-foot container.
     • Canada to East Asia, the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East for dry commodities (excluding agricultural products) effective Jan. 15. Rates will increase by $80 per 20-foot container and $100 per 40-foot container.
     • The U.S. to East Asia for dry commodities (excluding agricultural products) effective Jan. 15. Rates will increase by $80 per 20-foot container and $100 per 40-foot container.
     • East Asia to the Caribbean, East Coast of Central America, Panama, the Gulf of Mexico and Progreso for all cargo and container types effective Jan. 15. Rates will increase by $1,050 per 20-foot container and $1,500 per 40-foot container.
     • East Asia to Mexico, the West Coast of Central America and the West Coast of South America for all cargo and container types effective Jan. 15. Rates will increase by $750 per 20-foot container and $1,500 per 40-foot container.
     • The U.S. East Coast to Central America and Caribbean destinations for all cargo (dry and reefer) effective Feb. 1. Rates will increase by $50 per TEU.
     • The U.S. East Coast to the West Coast of South America for all cargo (dry and reefer) effective Feb. 1. Rates will increase by $100 per TEU.
