Freight shipments inch up in April

   Domestic freight activity inched up by 0.4 percent from March to April, led by trucking and intermodal growth, according to recently released figures collected by the Department of Transportation.
   While the DOT’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics measured significant rail car growth in March, that activity slowed down in April.
   With the latest increase, freight transportation has increased by 24.1 percent since its low point in April 2009. Year-over-year, freight shipments were up by 4.8 percent.
