GE Transportation lands $1b deal in Ukraine

GE Transportation will supply freight locomotives to Ukrainian Railways, as well as additional locomotive kits over 10 years, the rehabilitation of locomotives in the railway’s fleet, and long-term maintenance services.

   GE Transportation signed a $1 billion framework agreement in Ukraine in which it will help the Eastern European country improve its rail operations.
   The deal is the largest ever for GE in the country.
   Under the agreement, GE Transportation will supply 30 GE Evolution Series freight locomotives to Ukrainian Railways, as well as additional locomotive kits over 10 years, the rehabilitation of locomotives in the railway’s fleet, and long-term maintenance services, the company said.
   Locomotive production is expected to begin in the U.S. in early 2018, with the first deliveries slated for this fall.
   Some work will be localized in Ukraine to further bolster job creation and economic development in the country, the company said.
