Georgia Ports traffic soars for October
The Georgia Ports Authority reported high-level increases in container and breakbulk throughput for the month of October.
The authority, which operates the deepwater ports in Savannah and Brunswick, along with inland barge operations in Bainbridge and Columbus, said 161,113 TEUs moved across Georgia’s docks during October, a 12.5 percent increase over the same month last year.
During October, Georgia ports handled a combined 1.67 million tons, a 22.4 percent increase over the same month last year. At the Mayor’s Point terminal in Brunswick, 55,336 tons of breakbulk were handled in October, a 195 percent increase over the same period in 2003.
Intermodal traffic at Savannah’s Garden City terminal increased 19.9 percent during October compared to the same month last year.
