Mississippi’s governor says he wants to speed up development of the Port of Gulfport.
The Sun Herald newspaper, reporting on a meeting it had with Gov. Phil Bryant Wednesday, said “he wants quicker action on issues stalling development at the Port of Gulfport so the project moves forward and produces 1,200 new jobs in order for officials to avoid the chance of losing $500 million in federal money.”
The paper reported Bryant saying Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan “called two months ago and said ‘y’all need to move forward with your construction’ because you have $500 million sitting in reserve and Congress has the potential of sweeping that money.”
