GPA surpasses 2 million TEUs
The Georgia Ports Authority Monday reported fiscal year end results with all key business sectors reporting growth for the year.
The Port of Savannah handled 2.04 million TEUs in fiscal year 2006, an increase of 15.9 percent from fiscal year 2005. Total GPA intermodal rail lifts rose 23.1 percent for the year. Auto and machinery units handled by the GPA increased 8.2 percent to 376,446. Colonel’s Island Terminal alone handled a record 368,475 units.
“For the first time in our history, the Georgia Ports Authority surpassed 2 million TEUs in a single year,” said Mack Mattingly, chairman of GPA’s board of directors, in a statement.
