GRI Roundup: Maersk Line, CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd

Ocean carriers Maersk Line, CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd issued general rate increases.

   Ocean carriers Maersk Line, CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd issued general rate increases on various trades.
   Maersk Line will increase rates from:
     • Far East Asia (excluding Japan) to North Europe effective May 1. Rates will increase by $550 per TEU; and $1,100 per forty-foot container (FEU), 40-foot high cube and 45-foot high cube for dry and reefer containers.
     • Ukraine to Far East Asia effective May 1. Rates will increase by $50 per TEU, FEU, 40-foot high cube and 45-foot high cube for dry containers.
     • China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Myanmar, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Taiwan to Puerto Rico; the Dominican Republic;  Haiti; Jamaica; Venezuela; Trinidad and Tobago; Panama; and Santa Marta, Barranquilla and Cartagena in Colombia effective May 15. Rates will increase by $1,050 per TEU; and $1,500 per FEU and 40-foot high cube for dry containers. In addition, rates will increase by $1,000 per FEU and 40-foot high cube for reefer containers. Rates will also increase by $1,050 per 40-foot non-operating reefer containers.
     • China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Taiwan and Myanmar to Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Buenaventura in Colombia effective May 15. Rates will increase by $750 per TEU; and $1,500 per FEU and 40-foot high cube for dry containers. In addition, rates will increase by $1,000 per FEU and 40-foot high cube for reefer containers. Rates will also increase by $1,500 per 40-foot non-operating reefer containers.
     • Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Myanmar to Australia effective May 15. Rates will increase by $150 per TEU; and $300 per FEU and 40-foot high cube for dry containers.
     • China (east, north and south), Hong Kong and Taiwan to Australia effective May 15. Rates will increase by $300 per TEU; and $600 per FEU and 40-foot high cube for dry containers. 
   CMA CGM will increase rates from:
     • The Middle East and Upper Gulf (excluding Saudi Arabia) to West Africa’s central and south range ports for all cargo except reefers effective May 1. Rates will increase by $200 per TEU.
     • The Middle East and Upper Gulf (excluding Saudi Arabia) to West Africa’s north range ports for all cargo except reefers effective May 1. Rates will increase by $150 per TEU.
     • All Asian ports to all Middle East Gulf ports for all cargo. Rates will increase by $100 per TEU on May 1, May 8 and May 15.
     • All Asian ports to Pakistan, the West Coast of India and Sri Lanka for all cargo. Rates will increase by $100 per TEU May 1 and again May 15 by $100 per TEU.
     • Asia (including Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Southeast Asia and Bangladesh) to Durban and Cape Town in South Africa for all cargo effective May 15. Rates will increase by $200 per TEU and $400 per FEU.
   In addition, the French carrier issued a peak season surcharge from Asia (including Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Southeast Asia and Bangladesh) to West Africa for all cargo effective May 15. Rates will increase by $300 per TEU.
   Hapag-Lloyd will increase rates from Uruguay to the West Coast of Latin America via Cartagena for all cargo effective May 22. Rates will increase by $200 per TEU.
