Ocean carriers Maersk Line, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd and MOL announced general rate increases.
Ocean carriers Maersk Line, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd and MOL issued general rate increases.
Maersk Line will increase rates from Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe to Far East Asia effective Oct. 1. Rates will increase by $50 per TEU, $100 per forty-foot container (FEU) and $100 per forty-foot high cube dry container.
CMA CGM will increase rates from:
- All Asian ports to all Middle East Gulf ports on all cargo effective Oct. 15. Rates will increase by $125 per TEU. Rates will increase again on Oct. 22 by $125 per TEU.
- All Asian ports to Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India on all cargo effective Oct. 15. Rates will increase by $50 per TEU and $50 per FEU.
- India, the Middle East and Gulf to West Africa on all cargo effective Oct. 16. Rates will increase by $150 per container.
In addition, CMA CGM’s rate increase scheduled to take effect Oct. 9 from Asia (including Japan, Southeast Asia and Bangladesh) to South Africa and Port Louis on all cargo on the carrier’s Shaka service of $150 per TEU, will be postponed until Oct. 15.
The French carrier also removed its port congestion surcharge in Matadi Oct. 1. The surcharge of $1,000 per container (900 euros per container), which took effect June 1, was applicable to reefer containers.
The terminal congestion surcharge to Matadi from worldwide origins for reefer bookings will remain in place until further notice, according to CMA CGM. The surcharge is $300 per reefer container (270 euros per reefer container).
Hapag-Lloyd will increase rates from:
- East Asia to all U.S. and Canada destinations for all dry, reefer, flat rack and open top containers effective Nov. 1. Rates will increase by $540 per TEU standard container, $600 per FEU standard container, $675 per 40-foot high cube container and $760 per 45-foot container.
- The Mediterranean to the West Coast of the United States and Canada for all cargo and all container types effective Nov. 1. Rates will increase by $200 per TEU and $300 per FEU.
- East Asia to the Caribbean, East Coast of Central America and Panama for all cargo and all container types effective Nov. 1. Rates will increase by $700 per TEU and $1,000 per FEU.
- East Asia to Mexico, the West Coast of Central America and the West Coast of South America for all cargo and container types effective Nov. 1. Rates will increase by $750 per TEU.
In addition, the German carrier postponed a rate increase originally scheduled to take effect Sept. 1 from the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent to the U.S. and Canada. The increase, which has been pushed back until Dec. 1, will be $160 per TEU standard container, and $200 per FEU standard container, 40-foot high cube container and 40-foot reefer container.
MOL will increase rates from Asia (including the Indian Subcontinent and Middle East) to South Africa, Lesotho and Zimbabwe on all cargo effective Oct. 15. Rates will increase by $150 per TEU and $300 per FEU.
