GRI Roundup: Maersk Line, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, MOL and UASC

Ocean carriers Maersk Line, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, MOL and UASC issued general rate increases.

   Ocean carriers Maersk Line, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, MOL and UASC have announced general rate increases.
   Maersk Line will increase rates from:
     • China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Myanmar (Burma), South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia to Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay effective June 15. Rates will increase by $1,000 per TEU, FEU and 40-foot high cube for dry containers; and $1,000 per non-operating reefer (NOR) containers.
     • The United States to Far East Asia effective July 1. Rates will increase by $80 per TEU, $100 per FEU, $100 per 40-foot high cube and $100 per 45-foot high cube for dry containers.
     • Far East Asia to North America effective July 1. Rates will increase by $480 per TEU, $600 per FEU, $700 per 40-foot high cube and $750 per 45-foot high cube for dry containers.
   CMA CGM will increase rates from all Asian ports to all Middle East Gulf ports for all cargo in two successive steps. On June 6, rates will increase by $200 per TEU, while on June 13, rates will increase by an additional $100 per TEU.
   The French carrier will also increase rates from Asia (including Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Southeast Asia and Bangladesh) to West Africa for all cargo. Rates will increase by $500 per TEU and $1,000 per FEU July 1, Aug. 1 and again on Sept. 1.  
   German ocean carrier Hapag-Lloyd will increase rates from:
     • North, South and Central China to the Persian Gulf for all cargo and container types effective June 15. Rates will increase by $100 per TEU.
     • North East Asia to Australia for all cargo and container types effective July 1. Rates will increase by $300 per TEU.
     • East Asia to Mexico, the West Coast of Central America and the West Coast of South America for all cargo and container types effective July 1. Rates will increase by $500 per TEU container and $1,000 per FEU container.
     • East Asia to the Caribbean, the East Coast of Central America, Panama, Mexico Gulf and Progreso effective July 1. Rates will increase by $1,050 per TEU container and $1,500 per FEU container.
   Meanwhile, MOL will increase rates from Asia (including the Indian Subcontinent and Middle East) to South Africa, Lesotho and Zimbabwe for all cargo effective June 1. Rates will increase by $200 per TEU and $400 per FEU.
   The Japanese carrier will also increase rates from Asia (including the Indian Subcontinent) to the East Coast of South America for all cargo effective June 15. Rates will increase by $1,000 per TEU and $2,000 per FEU for dry containers; and $2,000 per 40-foot RAD (NOR) containers.
   UASC will increase rates from Asia to North Europe in two successive steps. On June 1, rates will increase by $475 per TEU, and on June 15, rates will increase by an additional $475 per TEU.
