GRI roundup: Maersk Line, MSC, CMA CGM, COSCO and MOL

Ocean carriers Maersk Line, MSC, CMA CGM, COSCO and MOL announced general rate increases.

   Ocean carriers Maersk Line, MSC, CMA CGM, COSCO and MOL have announced general rate increases on various trades.
   Maersk Line will increase cargo rates from China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Taiwan to the East Coast of South America Aug. 1. Rates will increase by $550 per TEU dry, $1,100 per 40-foot container (FEU) dry and $1,100 per 40-foot high cube dry container.
   Maersk Line will also increase rates from South Korea, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan to Australia Aug. 1. Rates will increase by $300 per TEU dry, $600 per FEU dry and $600 per 40-foot high cube dry container.
   In addition, the Danish carrier will also increase rates from Far East Asia (excluding Japan) to Europe (excluding Syria) Aug. 1. Rates will increase by $1,000 per TEU, $2,000 per FEU, $2,000 per 40-foot high cube and $2,000 per 45-foot high cube dry and reefer.
   From Far East Asia (excluding Japan) to Syria, rates will increase by 900 euros ($975) per TEU 1,800 euros per FEU, 1,800 euros per 40-foot high cube and 1,800 euros per 45-foot high cube dry and reefer.
   MSC has issued a rate increase from Asia to Europe and the Mediterranean effective Aug. 1 for $1,000 per TEU, according to Richard Ward, a container derivatives broker at Freight Investor Services in London.
   CMA CGM announced a $300 per TEU rate increase from all Asian ports, including Japan, Southeast Asia and Bangladesh to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Ain Sokhna, Egypt; Aqaba, Jordan; Djibouti; Port Sudan, Sudan; and Hodeidah, Yemen on all cargo effective Aug. 1. 
   CMA CGM will also increase rates from all Asian ports to Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and India on all cargo Aug. 1 by $100 per TEU and $100 per FEU.
   In addition, the French carrier will also increase rates from all Asian ports to all Middle East Gulf ports on all cargo Aug. 1 by $250 per TEU.
   COSCO has issued a rate increase from Asia to Europe effective Aug. 1 for $1,000 per TEU, Ward said.
   MOL has issued a rate increase from Asia (including the Indian Sub-Continent) to the East Coast of South America effective Aug 1. Rates will increase by $750 per TEU, $1,500 per FEU dry and $1,000 per FEU RAD (NOR) containers.
