Grounded containership refloated off Japan

Seaspan reported there were no injuries or environmental consequences from the grounding of the MOL Express in Tateyama Harbour.

   Salvage experts successfully refloated the MOL Express Wednesday, according to a statement from Seaspan Corporation.
   The 4,600-TEU containership ran aground in Tateyama Harbour, Japan on Jan. 11.
   Seaspan thanked all involved with the salvage effort and added “The company is grateful there were no crew injuries and no environmental consequences from this incident.”
   Officials are still investigating the cause of the grounding. 
   The MOL Express is managed by Seaspan and is currently on charter to Mitsui O.S.K. Line (MOL). The vessel is owned by Greater China Intermodal Investments LLC, a joint-venture between the Seaspan Corporation, the Carlyle Group, and affiliates of the Washington family and Tiger Group Investments.
