Hamburg Süd resumes Oakland calls

German ocean carrier had suspended calls to the port due to West Coast congestion during ILWU-PMA labor contract negotiations.

Hamburg Süd will resume direct calls to Oakland on its West Coast Americas Service (WAMS) starting with the Cap Palliser voyage 520 on May 16, 2015. The service, on which Alianca, CCNI, and Great White Fleet share space, is operated with five ships with an average capacity of 1,819 TEUs.
In addition to Oakland, the carrier calls Long Beach and Port Hueneme as well as Manzanillo, Mexico; Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala; Guayaquil, Ecuador, and Rodman, Panama.
Calls to the Northern California port had been suspended during the congestion that accompanied the contentious labor contract negotiations between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association.
“With this, Hamburg Süd has completed the re-start phase of full network operation of it’s West Coast based services following the protracted labor dispute,” the company said in a statement.
