HANJIN ADDS 5,600-TEU SHIP TO U.S/ASIA/EUROPE SERVICE

Hanjin Shipping is adding a fourth new 5,600-TEU containership to its U.S. West Coast/Asia/northern Europe/Asia/U.S. West Coast “pendulum 1” service.

The 26.8-knot “Hanjin Athens” was built by the Hanjin Heavy Industries shipyard in Korea for German shipowner Conti Reederei. Hanjin Shipping charters the vessel from Conti Reederei.

The ship will be deployed within the United Alliance’s pendulum 1 service on July 18, replacing a smaller vessel of 4,500-TEU capacity.

According to ComPairData, the global shipping database on the Internet at www.compairdata.com, the U.S./Asia/Europe/Asia/U.S. pendulum 1 service now employs 12 vessels with an average capacity of 5,339-TEU.

Hanjin Shipping said that will introduce two more 5,600-TEU by the end of the year and another two in 2001.
