Company says it is seeing increased demand for transporting refrigerated cargo.
Hapag-Lloyd said it has ordered 11,100 refrigerated containers. The new containers, to be delivered between August and the end of the year, will increase the company’s fleet of reefer containers to 91,000.
“We see increasing demand from clients to transport temperature-sensitive goods. To benefit from additional opportunities in this attractive market segment, we have decided to increase our reefer fleet,” said Clemens Holz, director of reefer products.
Two thousand of the new containers are equipped with “controlled atmosphere” technology used to slow down the ripening process and to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables.
