Head of Maersk U.K. steps down

Michael Hassing, chief executive officer of shipowning company The Maersk Co. Ltd. in the United Kingdom and regional manager for the U.K./Ireland area of Maersk Sealand, has resigned from the Danish group only days after criticizing Britain’s shipping policy.

However, a spokeswoman for A.P. Moller-Maersk in Copenhagen said his departure is “not related” to his views on the U.K.’s shipping policy, which is shared by other senior executives of the Danish group.

The successor to Hassing will be Jesper Kjaedergaard, a former head of liner trades at Maersk Sealand who is area manager for Central and West Asia at A.P. Moller-Maersk.

The position of head of Maersk in the United Kingdom is traditionally a major stepping stone for A.P. Moller-Maersk executives before they move to the most senior jobs at the group's Copenhagen headquarters.
