Hamburg Hafen und Logistik AG’s Container Terminal Burchardkai received three new container gantry cranes Sunday, and once they go into operation, the terminal will be able to handle ships with a capacity of 20,000 TEUs and more at two berths.
Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG’s (HHLA) Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) at the Port of Hamburg took delivery of three additional container gantry cranes Sunday from Shanghai-based equipment manufacturer ZPMC.
The terminal now has eight of these cranes.
The cranes will be put into operation at berth 5/6 from the end of 2016, allowing the terminal to handle ships with a capacity of 20,000 TEUs and more at two berths.
Each crane weighs 2,400 metric tons and can handle a maximum payload of 110 metric tons. The new cranes are designed for containerships with 24 transverse container rows.
In addition, a further two cranes are currently being constructed at the HHLA Container Terminal Tollerort, meaning that HHLA will then have three berths for handling especially large container vessels.
