HKIA reports 3.1% decline in November cargo throughput

Cargo volumes at Hong Kong International Airport fell 3.1 percent year-over-year in November to 407,000 tons.

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), which has been ranked the busiest airport for international cargo since 1996, handled 407,000 tons of cargo in November, a 3.1 percent decline from November 2014, according to the airport.
HKIA primarily attributed the decline to year-over-year decreases in transshipment and import volumes in November of 6 percent and 4 percent, respectively.
“Amongst the key trading regions, traffic to/from the Mainland China and Southeast Asia registered the most significant drop in the month,” HKIA said in a statement.
In addition to November, the airport posted year-over-year cargo throughput declines from March through August during 2015.
On a rolling 12-month basis, HKIA handled 4.38 million tons of cargo, a 0.3 percent year-over-year increase.
