Cargo throughput at Hong Kong International Airport rose 1.1 percent year-over-year in September to 368,000 tons after six straight months of year-over-year declines.
Cargo volumes at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) increased 1.1 percent to 368,000 tons in Sept. 2015 compared with Sept. 2014, according to the most recent data from the airport.
For the six straight months prior to September, the airport posted year-over-year declines in cargo throughput.
HKIA, the world’s busiest airfreight hub, attributed September’s rebound to a 3 percent year-over-year growth in exports. However, imports experienced negligible growth and transshipments dropped 3 percent from Sept. 2014.
“Amongst the key trading regions, traffic to/from North America and Australasia increased most significantly,” the airport said in a statement.
Overall, HKIA has handled 3.2 million tons of cargo during the first nine months of 2015 and 4.4 million tons of cargo on a rolling 12-month basis, which represents growth of 0.2 percent and 1.3 percent, respectively.
