In the wake of the Hanjin bankruptcy, Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has announced a new transpacific liner service that will start this month.
The Hyundai New Start (HNS) service will deploy five HMM vessels, three 3,800-TEU vessels, one 6,000-TEU vessel and one 4,500-TEU vessel.
The carrier said the “HNS service will provide HMM’s customers with a more desirable product, including the industry’s fastest transit time of nine days from Pusan to Los Angeles and a greater port coverage, while still maintaining network stability.”
The loop’s rotation will be Los Angeles, Busan, Shanghai, Gwangyang, Busan and Los Angeles. Additional ports may be added at some point in the future.
The launching of the NHS follows the decision by HMM to deploy extraloaders in the immediate aftermath of the Hanjin bankruptcy to help Korean shippers move cargo to North America.
