Hoegh takes delivery of world’s largest PCTC

Ocean carrier Hoegh Autoliners took delivery of the Hoegh Target, its first post-panamax vessel.

Ocean carrier Hoegh Autoliners took delivery of its first post-Panamax vessel, the Hoegh Target. The vessel is the world’s largest pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) with a carrying capacity of 8,500 car equivalent units and a deck space of 71,400 square meters.
The Hoegh Target has a higher door opening than the ocean liner’s other vessels, which allows cargo up to 6.5 meters high and 12 meters wide to be loaded. In addition, extra ramp strength allows cargo up to 375 tons to be loaded over the stern ramp and 22 tons over the side ramp, Hoegh said in a statement.
The 20,766-ton dwt PCTC is registered in Norway.
The vessel’s design was developed in close cooperation with Deltamarine OY, and its naming ceremony took place at Xiamen Shipbuilding Industries in China last month.
The Hoegh Target will sail in the East Asia to Europe trade for her maiden voyage and afterwards will sail from Europe back to East Asia via Africa and Oceania, Hoegh said.
Hoegh is scheduled to take delivery of five more vessels with the same design over the next 18 months.
