HOUSE NEARS VOTE ON CHINA TRADE STATUS
Legislation that would grant China permanent normal trade relations status is expected to come before the House of Representatives for a vote May 24 or 25.
The bill, which has been cleared for House action by the Ways and Means Committee, is backed by the American Association of Port Authorities, American President Lines, Maersk Sealand, and many large industry groups.
The legislation is required as a first step for China to join the World Trade Organization.
