HOUSTON AIRPORT BEGINS WORK ON CARGO CENTER

Houston’s Bush International Airport has begun construction of a 156,000-square foot air cargo processing and distribution center, the airport's first new air-freight facility in eight years.

The center, scheduled for completion in October, is a joint venture of AMB Property Corp. and Trammell Crow Co. The building is designed to handle large volumes of domestic and international freight and U.S. mail. The concrete tilt-up single-story building will sit on 8.4 acres adjacent to an aircraft apron capable of accommodating twelve 747-400 freighters, with a front dock that can process up to 50 tractor-trailers. Additionally, the building will have a 37-foot ceiling to hold the latest elevated transport vehicle freight handling systems.
